2011: Intern at MNC under R&D Process department..Sputter section..4 months (due to summer break adjustment for international student)..:-
1st-2nd day: Briefing & training under HR department for company policies, cleanroom SOP and ISO's..
3rd day: Qualification Exam based on previous 2 days input..result pass: continue internship..fail: repeat exam or dismiss..luckily,l was amongst those pass in first trial and release to department..end up doing nothing until 5 pm (supervisor was busy)..then only my supervisor appeared..introduced me to Directors and all departments..briefing my project..quite culture shock as >50% were japanese due to tsunami in Japan..
4th day: Supervisor (sv) gave his computer and asked me to read whatever I would like to know about the company..I read all files from morning to lunch..continued after lunch until almost 5pm..no talk to others and my head kept static to monitor until director feeling weird and asked HOD what did I read..HOD later asked my sv..and later my sv asked me what did i read..i showed him I read almost 200++ pages of company's doc..and he turned off the computer and ask me to tell the content from all doc..front process..middle process..end process..type of testers..process machine mechanisms..etc..he said..if i managed to answer all..he will bring me into production..and I got almost all correct until he asked me to draw the holder in the machine..it only based on what I imagined through the reading..so I drew it horizontally instead of vertical..luckily he was satisfied and brought me into production from front end to back end..eventhough it was already after 5pm..he showed me every process station and asked me to explain what the machine, plc, pneumatics & sensors do..if my answer was correct..he would keep silent..and when it was wrong..he would explain..then he would ask me to explain from physics point of view..i only could relate to how atom works..
5th day onwards: I started my main project..introducing next technology for company..involved a lot of journals and readings..I went home at almost 6pm everyday (eventhough trainees should go home at 5pm)..because I didn't have any basics for the technology..that I needed to put effort to understand from the 1st generation to the current 4th generation of the technology..
2nd month: got complain from customer during audit for machine setting..eventhough it was not producing reject but as a company that aims for '0' defect..every complain for improvement does matter..i had been invited to join their meeting with directors and other seniors after 5pm..I went home almost 7pm after meeting finished..
Next days onwards: continued with my project..
End of 2nd month and early of 3rd month: Invited to support troubleshoot machine based on previous meeting issue..lead by machine SME from Japan and team up with 1 engineer from Japan, my sv and other 2 engineers..the machine parts were really heavy and huge..and very tired to death..at the same time very excited..it was something that I like..
3rd month onwards: Continued with my project..whenever I got stress..I went into cleanroom and learn about machine setting with whomever technician I met..sometimes I met my sv in cleanroom and asked if anything I could help..he would give me task..eg measure R&D or Prod sample..how I wanted to measure.. I had to deal myself with related technician for the tester machine..luckily I was from R&D department..that I owned VETO power to use the machine over production member..then I compiled the data in excel and generated graph..starting from that onwards..other system engineer started to call me to help her compiled data from machine log for SPC reference..
4th months onwards: focus on completing project and help here and there whenever stress..since my sv was busy..I didn't have choice but to walk into production line and learn as much as I could about each machine with other employee..
Ends of 4th months: Project presentation and was offered to work at the company..however, i had to turn down the offer since they wanted me to stop my degree programme..now I feel regret that I simply turn down the offer..they might had other plan for me..just move on..
